Sat 21 Feb – Fall Out Boy, The All-American Rejects, Hey Monday

    Hey Monday :
Despite my misgivings about their youth and relative inexperience, they just about won me over with their adorable bouncy show, their bright (if not particularly memorable) pop tunes, and Cassadee's sweet voice (noticeably stronger in the higher register). Pete came out for second song Obvious, and we LOLed at the idea of Pete singing. I thought Candles - acoustic at the start with just Cassadee and a guitar - was a particular highlight. Oh, and apropos of nothing, the hairhat on the left (one of the guitarists) had a suprisingly high voice when harmonising.

    AAR:
Tyson Ritter looked incredibly skeevy and unwashed. Nick came out wearing a black, patterned velvet jacket - WTF? The banter was forced and a bit arrogant (as was coming out to the 1812 Overture). …

Sat 21 Feb – Fall Out Boy, The All-American Rejects, Hey Monday

I had a scary realisation walking in to Acer Arena on Saturday night. Looking around at the kids in the audience, it dawned on me that I've been listening to this band for half of some of their lifetimes - and they say pop punk bands have no longevity.

After wading through the predictably huge merchandise cues to score a shirt, we wandered inside as Hey Monday were kicking off proceedings. For me, this was a case of another Fall Out Boy show, another great support. Coming straight off Pete's Decaydance label, this female-fronted outfit will draw Paramore comparisons forever, with one notable exception - in a live setting Cassadee can actually sing! This was the first experience I had had with these guys, and I enjoyed every second of it. it was refreshing to see a band who were just around to rock out - there was no message and no subtext to go along with anything that they did, just good friends playing awesome songs for a very appreciative audience. …
