Last night, Efrim Menuck and his friends of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra gave a concert at Doornroosje, Nijmegen (NL). And luckily, I was there also.
Menuck seemed to appreciate the venue as Doornroosje isn't one of those 'three months old concrete buildings they just put bands in'. As could be expected of a band on tour promoting their latest record A Silver Mt. Zion started off playing two songs of their recently released album, 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons. I had listened to that album a couple of times in the weeks before the concert and so I knew there's quite some singing in the songs. At least more than on their previous records and definitely more than you hear on the music of an average post-rock band.
As it turned out, I liked their new songs much more live than I'd expected. Also, Menuck's voice, in my experience, sounded almost exactly the same as on record. And I know many would say he's just singing false or screaming into the…
