• Disappointment? I'm feeling it.

Thu 22 May – Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, Vic Chesnutt, Stefan Nemeth

So, the venue opened an hour late, which I've been told is the norm. That didn't really bother me, but what did was that I only got to see the first 2 bands play and only witnessed 10 minutes of what sounded like a fantastic performance from A Silver Mt. Zion before having to leave to catch the last train out.

The first act, Stefan Nemeth, was average at best. I got to witness the guitarist strum a single note and rub his chin thoughtfully while headache-inducing static filled the room. They were far more appealing than the next band, however.

Vic Chesnutt was horrible. His music wasn't even okay enough to be called mediocre. His phone continually went off while he played and he joked around about it. He needed to turn it off and DIDN'T. It detracted from his boring songs that were failed attempts at wit lyric-wise. He continually referred the audience as motherfuckers…

Run of bad luck for us. Doors opened an hour late, first two bands were uninteresting (Vic seemed to get better the more of Zion played with him, which was entertaining, but he refused to stand up [edit: I've since been informed that he was in a wheelchair. My mistake!] and I don't appreciate being called a motherfucker by any performer who isn't Jack Black), and then we only got to hear about 10 minutes of 13 blues before we had to leave to catch the last train taking us home. Major disappointment :[

I'm sure Zion/the show was great overall-- we just barely got to see them. Bummer.
