Israel’s finest are back!

We can confidently say that after witnessing The Apples - a funk-jazz-scratch collective from Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem and New York - play The Maze in January, everyone in the room left in awe at their unmitigated brilliance, many purporting it to be the best gig they’d been to in years. The band concurred, and now believe Nottingham to be where it’s at. We’re going to show them the good town one last time…

The Apples musicians came together from their respective jazz/funk/electronica/hiphop groups (with cutup artists Radio Trip on board) to form what they originally called a ’spontaneous composition ensemble’, developing an eclectic, diverse and original take on vintage funk, but with a party vibe ethos which fervently denies beard-strokery. The result is a joyful mix of hard funk rhythms, grin-worthy old-school scratch routines and transfixing jazz solos, all aimed at the dancefloor.

For their second 7″ single on Freestyle Records, they’ve finally released a version of Rage Against The Machine’s Killing in the Name, a long-running gig favourite, which sold 1500 copies in less than a month. Anyone who came to the last gig will testify how good this was live - it was immense.

With a whole album’s worth of new material under their belt, tried and tested at sell-out shows around Israel in the past few months, we’re expecting yet another jaw-dropping performance.

Support comes from a ragtag act from Suffolk, THE SMALL TOWN BULLIES, playing their own brand of funk-driven party jazz and general cheekiness, and DJs DADDY BONES (Grandslam/Big Daddy Magazine, The Hustle), KING KAHLUA (The Go-Go, The Hustle), HEXFORD and THE WAITER (The Mighty Funk Collective) playing 60s raw funk, afrorock, psych and similar platters for your delectation.
