Depuis sa toute première visite en 1981 au Festival (qui en était alors seulement à sa 2e édition) avec Weather Report, qu’il a fondé, Wayne Shorter est intimement lié à l’histoire du plus grand festival de jazz au monde (qui lui a d’ailleurs décerné le Prix Miles-Davis en 1996). … et du jazz en général. Avec en effet une carrière de plus de 40 ans, qui l’a vu émailler le jazz de notes aussi bien classiques que rock ou encore électroniques, le saxophoniste-compositeur et improvisateur virtuose s’est imposé comme un grand parmi les grands. Qu’on attend toujours de revoir avec impatience, entouré de ses fidèles collaborateurs, Brian Blade, John Patitucci et Danilo Pérez.

Ever since his very first visit to the Festival in 1981 (then only in its 2nd edition) with Weather Report, the group he founded, Wayne Shorter has been intimately linked to the history of the world’s biggest jazz festival (which presented him with the Miles Davis Award in 1996)… and to jazz, period. Perhaps the greatest living composer in jazz, with a career spanning over 40 years of adorning jazz with his playing and voracious musical appetite, the saxophonist and virtuoso improviser has long since established himself as a great among greats-and one we can’t wait to welcome back, accompanied by his faithful collaborators, Brian Blade, John Patitucci and Danilo Pérez.
