    Sun 5 Feb – A Day On The Green

    The family-friendly wine/nostalgia-fest is back on the sun-dappled Sirromet grounds; as usual, the relaxed, semi-Bluesfest vibe hangs thick, with camping chairs and picnic blankets spreading as far as the eye can see.

    Originally from Byron Bay, Glass Towers are a completely different act to the one that opened SITG 2009. Shorn of dreadlocks, the four-piece are a tight live unit – alas, their neo-post-punk stylings don’t appear to engage the predominantly 40-plus crowd.

    ‘80s stalwarts Icehouse have no such problems, generating massed cheers right from their opening number – “theme song” Icehouse. Tightly executed, staples We Can Get Together, Crazy and Hey Little Girl remain great Australian pop songs; touring band member Michael Paynter takes the soaring lead on Man Of Colours, with Iva Davies reprising the song’s distinctive oboe line.
