Wed 6 Apr – Bob Dylan Old Bob, walked on, played 90% songs from his latest album. A mix of Bo Diddly style blues. Not bad, however the sound engineer did a lousy job, as the bass and drums were overpowering the beautiful guitar work. Bob mostly played keyboards. You would think that any artist performing for the first time in a country like China, would play a set list comprising 80% classics and 20% new material. Not other way round. Granted, the Chinese censors made it clear that they did not want Bob to perform blowin' in the wind and times are a-changin'. To political. After a short interval 3/4 way through the concert, Bob and his band returned on stage and kicked off with Like a Rolling Stone and All along the watchtower, my all time favourite song. Unfortunately, this version sucked! I am sure Jimi Hendrix would have agreed with me. After walking off, Bob came back for one more, after the crowd let him know, that they came to hear much more. …
