The sold out HMV Picture House in Edinburgh was surging with energy as the crowd waited eagerly in anticipation for a master class in instrumental post-rock. Explosions in the Sky were promoting their new album in four years Take Care, Take Care, Take Care as the Austin quartet’s strong grasp with cathartic feelings is one to be admired. An acclaimed band as music website Pitchfork describes their sound as, “a band whose music is as dramatic as finding hope”. The band performs with emotions created with deliberate ambiguity; leaving it open for the listener to decide the overall feeling of the music.
The support band was artist Lichens, as he abstractly created an experimental drone along with a visual aid (looked like art attack) which allowed the audience to get an insight to his psychedelic instrumental sound – which looked like he was tinkering around with a computer, making noise, for twenty minutes. …
