Thanks to Kevin from craigslist, I joined the sold-out crowed for my first Bowery Ballroom experience in the big N-Y-C. I was expecting a lot from this New York crowd, a group famed for their musical diversity and creativity. Sadly I entered to the unoriginal drone of the opener, True Window. Trust me, I could listen to the hum of a distorted guitar for days, but please, do something new with it.
Next ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead powered up with their raging drummer, Jamie Miller, who hit hard and was the force that moved the performance forward. Only when players started trading instruments did the excitement get turned for those jamming in the crowd.
An awkward vibe gave way to Surfer Blood's intro into their first night of the North America tour. Despite a crowd that seemed scared to participate the guys worked through and delivered new song with their signature style. …
