Fri 11 Nov – Within Temptation, Agua De Annique
Not having been to the Brixton Academy for a while, I had forgotten how hideous the queues are, so arriving early I gave up for a while and got a drink in a club/pub doing a special pre gig 'happy hour' - not that the price of cider there made me happy! It did let me warm up a bit though, and I didn't have to stand around for so long.
Anneke van Giersbergen: 8:00-8:30pm
4 piece (2 guitars, bass, drums, female vocals)
I had never seen Anneke or The Gathering before, but know a little of The Gathering's music, though for me they feel a little 'bland' - just fine in the background, but not really grabbing my attention. Live tonight their sound was good, so no complaints there, but I still found their slightly proggy blend of melodic rock a bit uninspiring and often a bit slow going. There were some faster bits which I enjoyed a bit more, but overall not quite my thing.
