Right, pay attention (cause sometime I wonder if you're listening).
Saturday 1st May, New Perspectives presents one of the hottest up and coming artists you're going to see this year.
Originally hailing from the other side of the channel, Xavier Thomas, better known as dÉbruit, is a true wizard of new era funk. Just back from wowing crowds at SXSW with a sound that jumps and skips between african rhythms, broken hip hop drum machines and heavy synth lines, we're very glad to have him in such an intimate venue.
With such a wide range of influences, it's understandable that people have struggled to give this sound a name. However, that hasn't stopped the most recent EPs, Spatio Temporel and Let's Post Funk (featuring Sa-Ra's Om'Mas Keith), from drawing praise across the music presses (including big names like Mixmag, HipHopConnection and Drowned In Sound) and winning fans from all corners of the globe.
His most recent Heart Beats 4 Haiti EP, released in aid of the recent disaster, was made up of entirely Haitian samples cut and chopped into exclusive new material.
Live, the dÉbruit experience is a very much hands on affair, throwing elements of past and present productions into the mix with choice snippets of other peoples sounds, and ensuring that no two gigs are quite the same.
This really is one not to be missing.
