Phoenix in Munich - this combination certainly has a ring to it. I had the chance to witness them some 3 years ago (back then in Backstage Werk) and this evening has remained in my personal top 3 concerts. Right until now :)
If you were able to get close enough to Thomas Mars and his fellows, you could see the excitement in their eyes while playing. After hitting off with
Lisztomania from their recent album, they had the crowd on their side. I personally prefer It's Never Been Like That over Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, and the evening proofed the older record to have a much better impact on the audience. People literally went crazy to Long Distance Call and Napoleon Says.
Last time, Thomas went on an extended walk through the crowd. This time, he briefly went missing, only to reappear on a bar across the room, making his way back to stage and taking some handful of fans with him. …
